DESIGN



Air Cargo Facility, Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, Gulfport, MS. Structural engineering for a one-story, 25-foot high, 200 foot x 200 foot air cargo facility building with a 2-story, 6,000-square foot lean-to office area and 5,000-square foot fumigation building. The structural system consists of conventional structural steel supported on steel H-shaped driven piles with concrete pile caps along with 8” concrete floor slab system. Loading/unloading truck docks and a related parking area are included in the project. Design


Multi-Level Parking Structure, Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, Gulfport, MS. This project involved acting as the Owner’s/Operator’s Representative, assisting in the preparation of a design-build Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for 300 surface parking spaces and a three-level concrete parking structure to accommodate 800 cars. The project included preparing RFQ documents for the invitation to contractors to perform design and construction of the parking structure within the guidelines of the Airport Agency. Design


Southwest Airlines Maintenance Hangar AFFF System, Dallas, TX
. Structural design for the retrofit of the AFFF fire suppression system for a three-bay aircraft maintenance facility. * Design


DFW Automated People Mover (APM) Maintenance Facility, DFW International Airport, TX.
Managed inspector’s contract for the construction of the APM maintenance facility for DFW International Airport. Project responsibilities included hiring construction inspectors for 24/7 APM track work, and attending construction meetings to evaluate personnel, schedules, and the ongoing need for Quality Control inspectors. The assignment also included handling all related human resources tasks. * Design


NTTA Highway 121 Bridges over Custer Road and West Rowlett Creek Overpass, Plano, TX.
As a subconsultant to Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), 2CMD was responsible for design of the deck slab and overall quality control for all signed and sealed plans and calculations prepared by PB in accordance with NTTA requirements. Design


NTTA President George Bush Turnpike Tall Mast Lighting Foundations, Collin County, TX. 2CMD designed the tall mast structure foundations for the lights and cameras along this roadway for a contractor. Foundation designs were reviewed and adjusted for different locations along the roadway. Design

FM 709 Bridge, Navarro County, TX. Structural design for a five-span, 325-foot long, standard Type IV pre-stressed beam bridge. * Design


TxDOT FM 309 Bridges, Navarro County, TX. Structural design for two standard TxDOT concrete pan girder bridges. One bridge was a four-span, 140-foot long structure; the other was a three-span, 96-foot long structure. Design


Alma Drive Bridge, Plano, TX.
Responsible for structural design for a two-span, 160-foot long, pre-stressed concrete, Type C beam bridge. The location included site-specific requirements for unusually large embankment retaining walls and a bicycle path. * Design

Pool Road Bridge, Grapevine, TX. Structural design for a four-span, 300-foot long, 73-foot wide bridge. The project employed sophisticated construction sequencing which was adapted in the design stage to maintain the bridge’s operational status throughout construction. * Design


TxDOT BRINSAP 1979, 1980 and 1990
. Performed bridge inspections and load rating analysis, and preparing documentation and maintenance/repair recommendations for TxDOT Districts 2 and 18. The 1979 project included first-time initial field inspection of more than 700 bridges OFF system encompassing 10 counties in District 2 and 88 bridges in Navarro and Ellis Counties for District 18. The 1990 project involved BRINSAP of off-system bridges for Tarrant County in District 2. Bridge types included single-span to multi-span pre-cast and steel truss bridges with timber decks. In addition, repair recommendations were also provided for the City of Carrollton in Dallas County, District 18 for a set of 1980 BRINSAP inspections. * Design


DART Standard Retaining Walls, Dallas, TX.
Structural design for standard retaining walls for track support with rail loading. The retaining walls ranged from 4 to 16 feet in height for various equivalent fluid pressure and light/heavy rail surcharge loadings. A standard retaining wall design was developed so the contractor could implement the retaining wall for any alignment and loading condition anywhere along the entire rail system. * Design


DART Central Business District Utility Structures, Dallas, TX.
Structural design for relocated concrete manholes in the Dallas Central Business District. The manholes ranged from 4 feet to approximately 20 feet in depth, for utility companies such as TXU, Southwestern Bell and Lone Star Gas. * Design


DART Prototypical Stations, Dallas, TX.
Performed structural engineering for prototypical station superstructures and foundations. Designed station platforms, pavements and foundations, as well as coordination with rail alignments and the rail loading system. * Design


DART Service and Inspection Facility, Dallas, TX.
Provided structural design and construction of a multi-story service and inspection facility including a one-story facility and maintenance building. Duties included representing the Principle Section Designer; and coordinating design consultants, including architect, engineers and pre-engineered building manufacturer, for construction of the deep foundation and superstructure system. This project involved coordinating the entire light rail service and inspection requirements including rail track design in the facility yard. * Design


Falcon AFB Dining Facility, Colorado Springs, CO. Structural design for an addition to and renovation of the Base dining facility. Responsibilities included attending a three-day design charette to evaluate and establish the user need, base facility availability and funding agency budget limitations. Construction administration assistance was provided to the Base Contracting Officer during project construction. * Design CM


Little Rock AFB Igloo Repairs, Little Rock, AR. Structural engineering design of the rehabilitation of 11 secure ordnance storage igloos built in the 1940s, from initial in-field inspection through drawings and specifications, and final repair. Responsibilities included documenting existing igloo conditions and providing drawings and specifications for water infiltration prevention measures for the humidity sweating drainage system, and repair of concrete cracks. * Design


Little Rock AFB C-130 Squadron Operations and Associated Facilities, Little Rock, AR.

Structural engineering for one 6,000-square foot and two 42,000- square foot . Structural systems consisted of light gauge steel frame gable roof trusses with steel deck, topped with standing seam metal roof system, supported by steel beam and column system enclosed by brick and block wall facade system. Shallow concrete footings and grade beams support the foundation system. Contract documents were done in SI (metric) units. * Design


McKinney Job Corps Center Dormitory, McKinney, TX
. Structural engineering of a new one-story, 30,000-square foot dormitory, which included a floating slab-on-grade with a structural grade beam supported by a straight shaft pier foundation. The superstructure wall consists of light gauge metal studs with brick fascia supporting wood trusses with a composition asphalt shingle roof. Construction phase duties included coordinating engineering RFIs, change orders and construction contract adjustments. * Design


Altus AFB Chapel, Altus, OK. Design for renovation and addition to the base chapel. Responsibilities included design of structural modifications to the existing structure for vertical and lateral loads to meet the present building code, while maintaining the historic values of the building structure. * Design


Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, McAlister, OK
. This “fast-track” design-build project involved structural design and detailing of modifications to the installation’s wastewater treatment plant. Modified plant components included scum baffle, UV filters, influent channel, bar screen, grit removal chamber, chlorine contact chambers, sedimentation pond systems and related infrastructure. The project also included design of a walkway bridge into the sedimentation pond for access to the discharge valve. * Design

Performed structural design for a pump house, manholes and associated drainage infrastructure. * Design


Vario Systems, Office Building, Southlake, TX.
Structural design for a two-story, 65,000-square foot structure. The structural system consists of open web steel joist for roof and floor system enclosed with concrete tilt-up panel. The foundation system consists of under reamed concrete piers and slab-on-grade foundation system. Design


McDermott Square, Plano, TX. Structural design for the first building of a six-building master planned, multi-use site. The building 1 is 35,000 square feet of shell retail shopping center. Design


Teel Village, Frisco, TX. Structural design for the first building of an 11-building, multi-use site. The overall site encompasses 25,200 square feet of shell retail shopping center. Design


Lake Shore Crossing, Little Elm, TX. Structural design for a one-story shopping center, a commercial multi-use space of approximately 35,000 square feet on a master planned site. 2CMD was responsible for structural design of the shopping center shell building. Design


CentrePort IV, American Airlines, Fort Worth, TX. Performed “fast-track” structural design for a sixstory speculative office building. The structural system consisted of a concrete skip pan joist floor system supported by a concrete beam and column frame system founded on a concrete beam and pier foundation system.* Design


Goodwill Building, Fort Worth, TX.
Structural design for a one-story, 35,000-square foot administration building. The structural system consists of a metal deck on open web steel bar joists, supported by steel wide-flange beams and columns. The foundation system is floating 5- inch slab-on-grade over engineering fill subgrade, with perimeter grade beam and drilled caissons under roof columns. The wall system consists of light-gauge metal studs and a stucco finish. * Design


General Motors NATG Assembly Plant, Arlington, TX.
Performed structural design for a series of renovations and additions to more than 2,000,000 square feet at this manufacturing facility. The project included modifications to a number of assembly areas and paint facilities, and addition of new production automated storage and retrieval, receiving, maintenance and quality control areas. In addition, modifications were made to site vehicular circulation areas, staging areas for delivery vehicles, and existing rail service. * Design


Dallas Galleria Garage, Dallas, TX. Structural design for a five-story, cast-in-place, post-tensioned parking structure with rooftop garden. The structure connects a second parking garage, a pre-cast structure, to the office building and shopping mall. * Design


Federal Home Loan Bank Garage, Dallas, TX. Structural design for 750-car, five story, posttensioned parking structure. The structure was designed to accommodate three story and partial basement in Phase I, with the additional two stories to be constructed later. The ground structure was a two-way conventional flat slab on 18-inch pier foundation. * Design


Waterside Commons Garage, Irving, TX. Structural design for a two-story, 1050-car, posttensioned slab-and beam parking structure. Conventional reinforced concrete columns support the upper deck. The foundation consists of a slab-on-grade floor with straight shaft drilled foundation supporting the columns. * Design


Abrams Center Parking Structure, Dallas, TX.
Structural design for a three-story, three-bay posttensioned concrete, slab-and beam, and cast-in-place parking structure. The foundation system consists of a slab-on-grade concrete slab and straight-drilled shaft piers for superstructure columns. The exterior façade of the structure is an architectural pre-cast panel. * Desig

 




Dar Elsalam Mosque, Arlington, TX. Structural design of a 14,000-SF single-story mosque. The structure consisted of steel beams and columns with metal deck on deep foundation and floating slab-on grade, pier and beam system. Design

 



Greenville Montessori Academy, Allen, TX.
Structural design approximately 23,000 sq. ft. of Montessori school building. The structure consists of pre-engineered wood trusses supported by shear wall system. The foundation of the buildings is typical straight shaft piers with 5-inch thick slab on grade and grade beams. Design


All Saints Episcopal School, Fort Worth, TX. Structural design of a foundation system for a 90,000-square foot building. The foundation supports a vendorprovided pre-engineered metal building for the superstructure, and consisted of a conventional two-way flat plate and a 6-inch concrete slab system supported by 18-inch diameter, 10-foot deep piers with a perimeter grade beam. The gymnasium building has a slab-on-grade foundation.* Design


Texas Wesleyan University, Fort Worth, TX. Condition Assessment Survey (CAS) and inspection of a college campus comprised of 32 buildings totaling more than 600,000 square feet of space. The project included documentation and rating of the structural condition of all buildings, some of which were more than 100 years old. A report was prepared, detailing a repair and maintenance schedule within University budget constraints. * Design

South Texas Regional Juvenile Facility, Edinburgh, TX. Structural design for a five-building, multiuse campus, including classrooms, laboratories, computer rooms, detention areas, administrative space and dormitories. The design required unique security considerations for different types of space uses. * Design


Grapevine High School Warehouse Campus, Grapevine, TX. Structural design for three one-story structures, each consisting of concrete tilt-up panel walls with a steel deck and an open web steel joist roof system supported on a pier and beam foundation and floating slab.* Design



TWDB Clean Water State Revolving Fund and Community Block Grant Program, Alvord, TX.
Foundation design for an elevated water tank, high service pump building, ground storage tank, chlorine building, tertiary filter unit sidewall, and floor slab for drying beds. Design


TWDB Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program, Cameron, TX.
Structural engineering for a 250,000-gallon reinforced concrete holding tank. The foundation was designed by reviewing and analyzing the existing foundation for new grit removal and comminuter units. Design


TRA West Fork 1 Relief Interceptor, Dallas to Grand Prairie, TX. Structural design and construction support for more than 19,000 linear feet of relief interceptor, including four junction boxes. Design responsibility encompassed the four junction boxes, which ranged in size from 14’ x 20’ x 20’ up to 70’ x 20’ x 30’. Two existing meter stations, one of which was relocated, were tied into the relief interceptor line. The project scope also included the performance of construction administration services. * Design


Northeast Mall, Hurst, TX. Structural design of cast-in-place concrete storm sewer system transition junction box to accommodate a pre-cast multi-barrel storm sewer line. * Design


Richards Branch Channel Improvements, Dallas, TX. Structural design for single-barrel 10' x 10' and 7-barrel 10' x 10' box culverts. * Design


Skillman-Abrams Sedimentation Structure, Dallas, TX. Structural design for an underground concrete drainage structure. * Design


Blue Grass Airport, Lexington, KY.
Civil design of tarmac and taxiway pavement for the replacement of pavements impacted by the expansion of the terminal building. The assignment involved grading, pavement design and marking, including relocation of the existing utilities and the deicing flow system. Design


DWU Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant Anaerobic Digesters, Dallas, TX.
This project involved performing an assessment of the existing facility and the proposed facility after the expansion of the plant’s anaerobic digester systems. The project included an evaluation of the plant’s biosolids handling and treatment systems (including belt filter press and conveyors), and performance of detailed design for four new digesters and the associated bio-solids handling systems. * Design
